     Elizabeth married first Melcajas A. Britton, son of Isham H. Britton and Mary W. Toot, on 13 Mar 1878 in Halifax Co., Virginia. He was the uncle of the woman her older brother Lafayette had married the year before.9,10
     Elizabeth and Melcajas appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 5 Jun 1880.17
     Elizabeth and Melcajas were divorced before 1890.11
