     He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Timberhill Twp., Bourbon Co., Kansas, in the household of his parents, Dr. John Bacon Britton and Elizabeth Blackmore.15 He appeared on the 1875 State Census of Timberhill Twp., Bourbon Co., Kansas, in the household of his parents.16 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Timberhill Twp., Bourbon Co., Kansas, in the household of his parents.7
     His father died on 6 Aug 1884, when Earnest was 18 years old.17,18
     Earnest moved to Colorado before 1885. He appeared on the 1885 State Census of Clear Creek Co., Colorado, in the household of A. A. Wallins, a confectioner, and his wife. Earnest is listed as a clerk for his host.19
     Earnest married Grace Harriet Thornton, daughter of Jacob Christena Thornton and Christena Wade, on 16 Nov 1898 in El Paso Co., Colorado, with Rev. Benjamin Brewster officiating.11,12
