Narrative:

Humphrey Cobb was born on 22 May 1801 in South Carolina.5,6
He moved with his parents about 1806 to Livingston Co., Kentucky, which became Caldwell Co. in May 1809. He was probably one of the three males under age 10 listed in the household of his father, Josiah Cobb, in the 1810 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky.10
His father died about Jun 1817, when Humphrey was about 16 years old.11
Humphrey and his brothers Hezekiah, Samuel, and Theron all seem to have moved to Shelby Co., Tennessee, some time after 1810, and at least some of them before 1825. It seems likely that they did not move together, but some followed others at different times.
Humphrey married Harriet T. Payne on 26 Nov 1828 in Shelby Co., Tennessee, with Rev. John Malloy officiating.7,8
Humphrey appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Shelby Co., Tennessee, with a household consisting of one male under age 5 (unknown), one age 20 to 30 (himself), and one female age 20 to 30 (wife Harriet), and three female slaves, two under age 10 and one age 10 to 24.12
Humphrey and Harriet moved to DeSoto Co., Mississippi, before 1837.4
On 14 Dec 1838 Humphrey and his siblings sold the 200-acre parcel in Caldwell Co., Kentucky, that they had inherited from their father.4
Humphrey appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of DeSoto Co., Mississippi, with a household consisting of one male under age 5 (son William, or perhaps Robert), two age 5 to 10 (sons Robert and John, or perhaps William and an older son), and one age 30 to 40 (himself), two females under age 5 (daughter Ann and another), and one age 20 to 30 (probably wife Harriet, though she seems to have been a bit older). There were also eight slaves, three males under age 10 and one age 10 to 25, and two females under age 10 and two age 10 to 25.13
Humphrey and Harriet appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of DeSoto Co., Mississippi, enumerated 7 Sep 1850, reporting real estate valued at $2,500. Their children John, Robert, Ann, William and Frances were listed as living with them.2
     He was a farmer.14,15
Humphrey died on 20 Mar 1854 at age 52.5 He was buried in Baker Family Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, DeSoto Co., Mississippi.9

Children:
     Children with Harriet T. Payne

It appears that Humphrey and Harriet had several other children. The 1830 and 1840 censuses indicate an older male child and a female in their household who are unknown. Burials a the cemetery where Humphrey was buried include two boys and a girl with surname Cobb who may have been their children.17
