Samuel R. Mooberry was born on 18 Jan 1824 in Franklin Co., Ohio.6,7,8 He was probably the male under age 5 to 10 listed in the household of his father, David Mooberry, in the 1830 Federal Census of Montgomery Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio.16
     He moved to Groveland Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in 1832 with his parents, David Mooberry, and Margaret Stumbaugh.17 He was probably the male age 15 to 20 listed in the household of his father in the 1840 Federal Census of Tazewell Co., Illinois.18
     Samuel married Louisa C. Hughes, daughter of Richard Hughes and Barbara Ruffner, on 16 Oct 1845.9,10,11
     Samuel and Louisa appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 30 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued at $1,200. Their children David, George and Luther were listed as living with them, as was Andrew Tanyard, age 17, a laborer.3
     Samuel and Louisa appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Groveland Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 26 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $3,000 and $200 in personal estate. Their children David, George, Luther, Evaline, Alvira, Milton and Dorcas were listed as living with them.19
     Samuel and Louisa appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Hilton, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 26 Jul 1870, reporting real estate valued at $13,000 and $2,000 in personal estate. Their children David, Luther, Evaline, Alvira, Milton, Dorcas, Nettie and Della were listed as living with them.20
     Samuel and Louisa appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Fon du Lac, Tazewell Co., Ohio, enumerated 1 Jul 1880. Their children Evaline, Milton, Dorcas and Nettie were listed as living with them.21
     Samuel served for many years as Supervisor and Justice of the Peace in Tazewell Co.12
     He was a farmer.3,19,20,21 At the age of 22 he settled three miles north of his parents' homestead, where he purchased 80 acres. Later purchases brought the total to 240 acres, in addition to 120 acres of timber land he bought from his father. He also owned several hundred acres in Cedar Co., Nebraska.4
     Samuel died on 24 Jul 1882 at age 58.12,13 He was buried in Mooberry Cemetery, Tazewell Co., Illinois.14
