     William Plinney Rounds was born on 27 Jan 1844 in Clarendon, Rutland Co., Vermont.6,7,8
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Clarendon, Rutland Co., Vermont, in the household of his parents, William M. Rounds and Maria Sanders.15 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Clarendon, Rutland Co., Vermont, in the household of his parents.16
     William enlisted as a private in Co. D, 7th Vermont Infantry 2 Feb 1865.17,18 The 7th Vermont Infantry was organized in 1862. It served on the western front, along the Mississippi River, then in Florida before being sent to New Orleans in the fall of 1864. When William joined the regiment it had just been sent to Mobile, Alabama, where it was involved in the siege of Spanish Fort. After the surrender of the Confederate States Army of Mobile at Citronelle, Alabama, the regiment was shipped Texas to become part of the "Army of Observation" along the Rio Grande River.19 William was discharged 2 Feb 1866.20
     He was a day laborer in 1860, and a farmer by 1870.21,22,23,24,25
     William married Helen E. Remington, daughter of John Henry Remington and Annis Baker Clark, on 27 Apr 1870 in Clarendon, Vermont, with Rev. Lewis Francis, Congregational minister, officiating.9,10,11
     William and Helen settled in Windsor Co. after their marriage. They appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Chester, Windsor Co., Vermont, enumerated 11 Aug 1870, reporting real estate valued at $5,000 and personal estate of $600. His father and his brother George were listed as living with them.2
     William and Helen moved to Bennington Co. by 1880. They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Rupert, Bennington Co., Vermont, enumerated 12 Jun 1880. Their children Lena and Gracie were listed as living with them, as was Giles Benson, a hired man.26
     William and Helen returned to Rutland Co. by 1881. William appeared on the Veterans Schedules of the 1890 Federal Census of Pittsfield, Rutland Co., Vermont. Helen and the children were presumably there also, but the remainder of the 1890 census record for his household in not available because those records were destroyed by fire in 1921.27
     William applied for an invalid pension based on his Civil War service on 5 Dec 1891, which was subsequently approved.28
     William and Helen appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Sherburne, Rutland Co., Vermont, enumerated 4 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their farm. Their son William was listed as living with them.29
     William and Helen appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Sherburne, Rutland Co., Vermont, on Pittsfield Rd., enumerated 21 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their farm, which was mortgaged. Their son William was listed as living with them, as were William's wife Merriam G. Pratt and their two children Helena and Genevea, and William Dailey, a hired hand.30
     William died on 24 Dec 1912 in Sherburne, Vermont, at age 68.12,13 He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Castleton, Rutland Co., Vermont.14
