     Sallie R. Owen was born on 18 Feb 1850 in Halifax Co., Virginia, probably, though her tombstone shows her as born 18 Feb 1851.8,9,10
     She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her parents, Robert Easley Owen and Mary Ann Frances Howerton.17,18 She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her parents.19 She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Hyco Twp., Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her parents.20
     Sallie married John Smith Toot, son of Melcajah Rhum Toot and Mariah Louis Smith, on 14 Oct 1874 in Halifax Co., Virginia, with Jonathan H. Davis officiating.11,12
     Sallie and John appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Black Walnut Twp., Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 17 Jun 1880, as were three Black domestic servants. Their daughter Mary was listed as living with them.21
     Sallie died on 15 Jan 1896 in Halifax Co., Virginia, at age 45, according to the state Register of Deaths, but her tombstone says she died 14 Oct 1895. No other records of her death have been found.13,14,15 She was buried in Mayo Plantation Cemetery, Mayo, Halifax Co., Virginia.16
