Isaac Rose Cook was born on 23 Dec 1849 in Kentucky.6,7,8He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Hickman Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, William Cook and Sophia Maria Cobb.17,18
His mother died on 3 Aug 1859, when Isaac was 9 years old.19,20,21
Isaac appeared with his father on the 1860 Federal Census of Columbus, Hickman Co., Kentucky, in the household of Elizabeth Rose, his paternal grandmother.22,23 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Columbus, Hickman Co., Kentucky, in the household of his father, William Cook, and step-mother, Margaret [surname unknown].24
He was a clerk in 1870, and a grocery merchant by 1880.25,26
Isaac married first Eleanor V. Gray, daughter of Washington W. Gray and Hester Vance, on 6 Nov 1873 in Louisville, Kentucky, with B. M. Messick offciating.9,10
