Narrative:

Sarah Story Briscoe was born on 17 Aug 1787 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland.6,7,8
Sarah married first Edward Otho Cresap, son of Daniel Cresap, on 28 Sep 1807 in Allegany Co., Maryland.9,6,7
She was probably one of the two females age 16 to 26 listed in the household of her husband Edward in the 1810 Federal Census of 5th District West of Evits Creek, Allegany Co., Maryland.16
Sarah and Edward moved their family to Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, about 1815. They traveled on a group of three flatboats, down the Ohio River and than up the Cumberland River to reach their destination.17,18
Her husband died on 2 Jan 1817 in Caldwell Co., Kentucky.6,19,20
Sarah married second John Cobb, son of Elkanah Cobb and Mary Willard, on 1 Aug 1820 in Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.10,11,12
She was probably the female age 26 to 45 listed in the household of her husband John in the 1820 Federal Census of Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.21 On 28 Aug 1820 John was appointed guardian of her minor children by her first marriage, Roger, Caroline, John, Hanson and Elizabeth.22
Sarah was probably the female age 30 to 40 listed in the household of her husband John in the 1830 Federal Census of Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, though she was actually 43.23
     John apparently died about 1834.24
Sarah purchased lot No. 68 in Eddyville, at the corner of Main and 3rd. Streets, in two transactions of $150 each, both dated 20 Aug 1842. She bought the north half, containing a frame tenament, from Wilson Marton and his wife Mary Ann. She bought the south half, containing a house, from John W. Peck.25 In the 1843 tax lists, Sarah reported owning the lot, valuing it at $150, and one slave valued at $500.26
She seems to have been quite a character – she is described in the family's oral history as "aristocratic but autocratic, smoking thin cigars and drinking a pint of bourbon."27
Sarah died on 30 Nov 1843 in Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, at age 56.13,7,14 She was buried in Riverview Cemetery, Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.15
