Narrative:

Franklin L. Snyder was born on 22 Sep 1853 in Pennsylvania.4,5,6
Nothing is known of Franklin before his marriage, including who his parents were, nor has any reocrd of his death been found. There is an F. L. Snyder of his age in Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the 1880 census who may have been him. That is the same general location where his future wife, who he married about two years later, was living. He was in the household of Mary A. Hoffman, a widow, and is identified as her nephew. Also living there were E. W., Jacob S. and Subilla W. Snyder, also identified as nephews and niece of Mary. The principal reason for doubt that his was Franklin is that this person's occupation is shown as shoemaker, and it is difficult to understand why someone with such a trade would later become a laborer and then a lumberman.10
Franklin married Christiana Riegel, daughter of Jacob K. Riegel and Christiana Ohl, about 1882.7,8
Franklin and Christiana moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where her older sister, Sarah, had lived for many years. They apparently moved there after 1895, as they do not appear in the state census that year. They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, enumerated 8 Jun 1900, reporting that they were renting their home.1
They back moved to Pennsylvania before 1905, as they do not appear in the 1905 Iowa state census. Franklin and Christiana appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of West Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 27 Apr 1910, reporting that they were renting their home.2
His wife died on 12 Jan 1919 in East Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.11,12
Franklin appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of East Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, at Pottsgrove and Montour Ridge Rd., enumerated 23 Jan 1920, reporting he was renting his home. Carrie Snyder, a sister-in-law, age 27, and her three children, Herbert, George, and Eva, were listed as living with him..13
He was a day laborer in Iowa. He was a lumberman, operating his own mountain timber business, after he returned to Pennsylvania. He had become a farmer by 1920.14,15,16,17
Franklin died on 24 Jan 1934 in Liberty Twp., Montour Co., Pennsylvania, at age 80.9 He was buried on 26 Jan 1934 in Montandon Cemetery.9
