Narrative:
Nancy Deborah Mixer was born on 6 Jul 1891 in Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio.8,9,10Nancy was named an heir in the will of her father, dated 28 Sep 1893 in Cincinnati, Ohio, in which he left her mother as trustee for her all his real estate other than their home. Her mother was to use the income from it, and sell part or all if needed, to support her until she reached the age of 18. Then all property and money remaining was to go to her.16
Her father died on 6 Feb 1894, when Nancy was 2 years old.17,18
The family has not been found in the 1900 census, Nancy and her daughter Nancy have not been found in the 1900 census. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, in the household of her mother.7
Nancy married William Porteous Stagge, son of Robert Frederick Stagge and Elizabeth Caroline Wieman, on 31 Oct 1912 in Hamilton Co., Ohio, with Rev. Harry McMinn, minister of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.11,12,13
Nancy and William appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Columbia Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, at Graves Rd., enumerated 26 Jan 1920. Their son Howard was listed as living with them.19
Nancy and William appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Symmes Twp, Hamilton Co., Ohio, at CCC Highway, enumerated 24 Apr 1930, reporting that the family owned a home worth $4,000 and owned a radio. Their children Howard and Mary were listed as living with them.20
Nancy and William appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Symmes Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 16 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $4,000, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Their children Howard and Mary were listed as living with them.21
William moved to rural Warren Co., some 20 miles from outside Cincinnati, by 1942. Their son Howard was also living in Warren Co. by then, but whether they were living together is unclear. It is also not clear whether Nancy moved there with them, but the fact that William listed Mrs. Helen Maag as the "person who will always know your address" on his draft registration in 1942, and not his wife as was more common, suggests not. Helen's husband was postmaster there, and since William had been a postman, that may have been their connection.22,23
Nancy and William were clearly separated by 1950.24 Nancy appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Norwood, Hamilton Co., Ohio, in the household of her daughter Mary and her husband, Charles T. Taylor. She reported she had worked two weeks the prior year, doing housework in a home.25 William appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Deerfield, Warren Co., Ohio.26
William and William were living in Foster, Ohio, at the time of his death. No record of where she was living then as been found, but they were apparently reconciled as they were buried next to each other in her father's lot.27
Her husband died on 29 Feb 1960 in Foster, Warren Co., Ohio.28,29
Nancy died on 10 Oct 1981 in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, at age 90.14,15 She was buried on 2 Nov 1981 in Cemetery of Spring Grove, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.6
Children:
Children with William Porteous Stagge
The only record found of Donald is his name listed in information provided by a family member, with no source shown. The 1950 census shows Nancy had only two children born alive. Either Donald was stillborn, the census record is in error and he died very young, or his listing in the family source is simply wrong.37,38
