He generally used his middle name, Henry, from childhood, apparently to distinguish him from his father. As an adult, he used William as his given name only in a few formal situations.22,23,24
He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Bullittsville, Boone Co., Kentucky,


Henry was named an heir in the will of his father, dated 6 Dec 1915, to receive an equal share with his siblings and half-siblings in all his property after the death of his widow.25
He was a laborer on his father's farm by 1910.26 He registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Burlington, Boone Co., Kentucky

Henry married Blanche Aylor, daughter of Bartley E. Aylor and Nellie Riggs, on 18 Aug 1920 in Latonia, Kenton Co., Kentucky
