Austin Willard Angell Jr. was born on 2 Feb 1916 in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon.7,8,9 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, in the household of his parents, Austin Willard Angell and Ida May Reigel.5 He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, in the household of his parents.15Austin applied for a Social Security Number 8 Jul 1938, while living at 1528 Sutter, San Francisco, California, where he was employed by Pacific Electric Manufacturing Company.4
His work apparently then took him to to Pennsylvania. He appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Lansdowne, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, at 90 Lansdowne Ave., enumerated 14 May 1940, as a lodger with five other men in the household of John J. Wilson and his wife.16
He was a draftsman for an electric company in 1940. That year he reported he had worked 44 hours the last week of March, and had worked 25 weeks the year before, earning $1,570.17
Austin entered service in World War II on 25 Jul 1941, at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, while living at 917 East Darby Rd., Llanerch, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania. He served in the United States until 31 Jul 1944, returning from overseas service 17 Nov 1945.18,19
Austin married Amie Dorothea Rockefeller, daughter of Ray Dell Rockefeller and Lina Marie Schriever.10,11
In Jan 1943 he was with the corps of engineers at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.20 He and Amie were living at 308½ S. Fairfax, Alexandria, Virginia, during that time.21
By mid-1944 he was a Major, stationed near San Luis Obispo, California, having been in California about seven months.22 He and Dorothea were living in 1070 Palm St., San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo Co., California, in Jul 1944, having lived in the town 3½ months, and in the state seven months.23 He was discharged from the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, on 12 Feb 1946.2
On 10 Feb 1950 Austin applied for compensation offered by the state of Pennsylvania to World War II veterans from that state. They were offered $10 per month of service within the U. S., and $15 per month for foreign service, up to $500. With 35 months of domestic service and 16 months of foreign service, he received the full $500.2
Austin and Amie appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Albany, Alameda Co., California, at 627 Curtis Ave., enumerated 8 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm. Their childrenwere listed as living with them.24 Austin and Dorothea lived there for many years and were living there at the time of his death.14
After the War he worked as a manufacturer's representative for 45 years, working for Ingalls Associates, an electrical manufacturing company. In 1950 he reported he had worked 40 hours the prior week.25,14
Austin died on 10 Nov 1987 in Berkeley, Alameda Co., California, at age 71.12,13 He was cremated and his remains were interred at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sebastopol, California, on 13 Nov 1987.14
