     Winifred Alta Manning was born on 4 Oct 1894 in Kansas.8,9,10
     She appeared on the 1895 State Census of Shawnee Co., Kansas, in the household of her parents, George Bonebarke Manning and Wilna Hadley.18 She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Topeka, Shawnee Co., Kansas, in the household of her parents.19
     She moved with her parents to Reno Co. by 1905. She appeared on the 1905 State Census of Hutchinson, Reno Co., Kansas, in the household of her parents.18 She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Hutchinson, Reno Co., Kansas, in the household of her parents, at 118 First Ave. West.20
     Her mother died on 14 May 1912, when Winifred was 17 years old.21,22 After the death of her mother, Winifred took over her role. According to family recollections, Winifred was an excellent cook and housekeeper and sewed beautifully. She said she had "made over" so many things, she wouldn't know what to do with a new piece of material, but she made her sister Marie’s wedding dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses. She didn't marry until she was 49 – she felt she had the duty of rearing her sisters and taking care of her father.23

     She was supervisor in a soil conservation agency by 1940. That year she reported she had worked 44 hours the last week of March, and had worked 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,400. She was the head of wheat allotment of Reno Co., with a staff of 18 reporting to her.26,27

     Winifred and Stanley Wilson Case had long been friends. According to her sister they had been engaged for 15 years before they married. However he had been married and living with his wife and three children in California until her death 4 Mar 1940. In any case, when Winifred and Stanley married her father reportedly took to his bed saying "It was so sudden."28,29,30
     Winifred married first Stanley Wilson Case, son of James Case and Adaline Libey, on 26 Aug 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas, at her father's home.11,3,12
