Isaac Tracy

Narrative:

     Isaac Tracy was born on 23 Apr 1770 in Tarrytown, New York.^5,6,7
     He moved to Norwich, Connecticut, with his parents by 1772.¹⁶ He moved to Williamston, Massachusetts, with his parents by 1779¹⁷, and to Pawlet, Vermont, by 1781.¹⁸
     Isaac married first Clarcy Cobb, daughter of Ebenezer Cobb and Elizabeth Lathrop, on 23 Feb 1795 in Pawlet, Vermont, with Gideon Adams, Esq., officiating.^8,9,7
     Isaac appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Shelburne, Chittenden Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of one male under age 10 (son Ahira) and one age 26 to 45 (himself), one females under 10 (daughter Deborah and another, unknown), and one age 16 to 25 (wife Clarcy.)¹⁹
     His wife died on 8 Feb 1801 in Shelburne, Vermont.^20,21,22
     Isaac married second Lydia A. Howard on 14 Mar 1803 in Shelburne, Vermont.^10,11
     Isaac and Lydia moved to Sheldon, Franklin Co., before 1810. Isaac appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Sheldon, Franklin Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of one male under age 10 (unknown), one age 10 to 16 (son Ahira), one age 16 to 26 (unknown), and one age 26 to 45 (himself), three females under 10 (daughters Clara, Caroline and Lucy), one age 10 to 16 (Deborah), and one age 26 to 45 (his second wife, Lydia.)²³
     Isaac appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Sheldon, Franklin Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of one white male under age 10, one age 10 to 16, three age 16 to 26, and one white female age 16 to 26. However, this would seem to be in error, as according to the preceding and following census records he would have been about 50 and his wife about 44.²⁴
     Isaac appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Sheldon, Franklin Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of one male age 5 to 10 (son Hayden), one age 10 to 15, two age 15 to 20 (unknown), one age 20 to 30 (unknown), and one age 60 to 70 (himself), one female age 10 to 15 (daughter Mary), two age 15 to 20 (Orra and Lemira), three age 20 to 30 (Clara, Caroline and Lucy), one age 30 to 40 (Deborah), and one age 40 to 50 (his second wife, Lydia.)²⁵
     He was a farmer.²⁶
     Isaac appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Sheldon, Franklin Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of two males age 15 to 20 (son Hayden and another), one age 20 to 30 (unknown), one age 30 to 40 (unknown), one age 70 to 80 (himself), four females age 20 to 30 (probably daughters Caroline, Lucy, Lemira and Mary, though Caroline was actually about 32), two age 30 to 40 (probably Deborah and Clara, though Deborah was actually about 44), and one age 60 to 70 (wife Lydia.)²⁷
     Isaac died on 19 Dec 1846 in Sheldon, Franklin Co., Vermont, at age 76.^12,13,14 He was buried in East Sheldon Cemetery, East Sheldon, Franklin Co., Vermont.¹⁵
     His estate was judged insolvent. The commissioners appointed to settle it advertised on 7 Jan 1847 that creditors were invited to present claims on the last Tuesday of each month from Feb through Jun from 10:00 until 4:00 at Hayden Tracy's dwelling house.²⁸
