29 The Cincinnati Altenheim was established in 1891 by a group of wealthy Germans in Cincinnati as a home for elderly Germans. The home was open to men aged 65 and over. Located on the corner of Elland and Burnet, it was first known as the Deutscher Altenheim but after the start of World War I, it became the Cincinnati Altenheim. In later years the name changed to the Cincinnati Old Men’s Home and then the Home for Aged Men. Unlike many of the old aged homes at that time, The Altenheim let their residents live as if they were in their own private home.
