Ann Catherine Owen was born on 4 Jul 1832 in VirginiaG.4,5,6
     Her father died on 16 Aug 1837, when Ann was 5 years old.11
     She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, with her mother, Maria Beverly Toot, in what appears to be a hotel or boarding house headed by John S Lindlen, his wife Harriet, and their family.12
     Ann appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 12 Jun 1860, reporting personal estate of $6500, and listing 6 slaves.13,14
     Ann married Evan Ragland.7,8,9
     Ann and Evan appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 21 Jun 1870, with him reporting personal estate of $1850 and her reporting real estate valued at $500. Their children Maria, Annie, Sallie, Mary, and Alberta were listed as living with them, as were three domestic servants.15
     Ann and Evan appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Banister District, Halifax Co., Virginia G, enumerated 15 Jun 1880, apparently living next to her brother Alfred and his family. Their children Maria, Annie, Sallie, Mary, Alberta, and Rosa were listed as living with them.16
     Ann died on 15 Oct 1903 at age 71.10

Alfred King Owen was born on 11 Jul 1834 in VirginiaG.4,5,6
     His father died on 16 Aug 1837, when Alfred was 3 years old.11
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, with his mother, Maria Beverly Toot, in what appears to be a hotel or boarding house headed by John S Lindlen, his wife Harriet, and their family.12
     Alfred married first Susan A.7,8
     Alfred and Susan appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 13 Jun 1860, apparently living with Thomas M. Headly, his wife and family, along with another family. He reported real estate valued at $2100 and personal estate of $3740. Their daughter Maria was listed as living with them, as is Maria A. Owen, age 21, relationship unknown. There are also three slaves listed.13,14
     Alfred and Susan appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 29 Jun 1870, reporting personal estate of $300. Their children Maria and Ida were listed as living with them, as are Tyact Street, a farm labor, and John Owen and Charles Carter, railroad laborers.15
     Alfred married second Elizabeth.9
     Alfred and Elizabeth appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Banister District, Halifax Co., Virginia G, enumerated 15 Jun 1880, apparently living next to his sister Ann Catherine Owen and her family. Their daughter Ida was listed as living with them, as was an 8-year-old Black servant, George Owen.16
     He was a farmer in 1860, but became a railroad agent by 1870.17,18,19
     Alfred died on 15 Jul 1909 at age 75.10
