8,9,10 He was "commissioned" Brigadier General and Commander of Transportation during the Centennial Celebration of the Settlement of Cincinnati and the 156th Anniversary of the Birth of George Washington in 1888.
21 He was a carpet layer. He was listed as working as a carpet measurer at The Alms & Doepke Co. in 1890-91, and as a carpet layer for Shillito's in 1918. In 1920 he was reported to be an upholster, at a furniture factory, and a cutter in a carpet store in 1910. But he apparently also kept a farm. In 1900 he was reported to be a farmer, and in 1910 his two youngest sons reported their occupations as farm laborer on "home farm."
