His given name may well have been Elkanah Winchester. The only source found that attempts so spell his first name seems to show it as Elhanin, but Elkanah was a name often used in the family. But he seems to have universally used the name Winchester, or simply Win, as an adult.

Beeman, age 41, a boatman. They seem to have been living close to his parents as they are listed two households before on the census record.
