Raymond L. Pound Rodeo Photo
Life 30 Jun 1952, pg 116

Raymond served elected to the city council of PlacentiaG in 1956. A year later he was elected mayor, serving until 1960, during a turbulent time as the city faced challenges from explosive growth. He also chaired the committee that managed moving his church to a new location.26
After his move to PlacentiaG he opened his studio, Pound Photographs, taking senior portraits for local high shools for many years along with photographing weddings and other events. In addition to his portrait work, he took a large number of "stock" photos using his children, relatives and neighbor's children, and animals he raised as subjects. They were sold to magazines and others through his agent for many years.26,35,36
He also traveled throughout California taking rodeo pictures, getting in the ring with with bulls and broncos with his large-format Graflex camera to get the best photos. He developed the photos in a small travel trailer outfitted as a laboratory and sold them to the cowboys while still at the events. He was fond of telling about other photographers being amazed that he was using the type of camera he did, because the image he was viewing in the camera was reversed left to right, creating the danger that he would run the wrong way to escape a charging animal.26,37 He semi-retired in the early 1990's, with his assitant taking charge of the studio.26
Raymond died on 10 Aug 1998 in Placentia, CaliforniaG, at age 84, at his studio.9,10

family photo
She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois, G in the household of her parents.17
Marie married first William Frederick Glabe, son of Jacob Glabe and Emma Amelia Goller, on 23 Mar 1926 in Peoria, IllinoisG. He was the widower of Estella Pearl Watson.7,8,9
Marie and William appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 314 North Elmwood Ave. G, enumerated 9 Apr 1930, reporting that the family owned a home valued at $10,000, and owned a radio.18
William went to Pasadena, CaliforniaG, about 1933 for a time to pursue a cottage cheese business there.19 While he was there Marie and two of her stepdaughters, Carmen and Jessie, drove there to visit him.19,20
According to family lore, upon their return, William sold their home in Peoria, and shortly after moved with Marie to Chico, CaliforniaG. Records indicate that it was actually several years later, but they did apparently move in 1938 or 1939. Daughter Carmen is the only one listed in the family home in Peoria in 1939.19,20,21
Marie and William appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Chico, Butte Co., California, at 1321 Oleander G, enumerated 4 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $4,600.22
When they moved to Chico they bought a new home at 1321 Oleander G in a then newly developing area on the north edge of town. It was a trim two-bedroom stucco house in what was probably then considered a modern style, with hip roof, little overhang, and casement windows. It had an "H" plan, with pantry, kitchen and dining room in one leg, bedrooms and bath in the other, and the living room connecting the two. Nestled in the rear was a screened porch. Built before the advent of air conditioning, the house nevertheless always seemed comfortable even in the hot summer days in the Northern Sacramento Valley. Probably part of the reason was that the living room was always dark because the drapes were always drawn. There was a detached two-car garage and a shady yard that was always bordered by flower gardens.23,24
Marie and William appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Chico, Butte Co., California, at 1321 Oleander G, enumerated 1 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.25
Her husband died on 18 Mar 1954 in Chico, Butte Co., CaliforniaG.26,27,28
Marie married second Kenneth Swearingen around 1958 in Reno, NevadaG.10
After their marriage, Marie and Kenneth Swearingen lived in the house on Oleander St. that she and her first husband had long owned.29,23
Kenneth died in Jul 1973 in Chico, Butte Co., CaliforniaG.30 After Kenneth's death she moved to Placentia, CaliforniaG, to live near her youngest step-daughter, Jessie.23
Marie died on 2 May 1983 in Placentia, Orange Co., CaliforniaG, at age 84.11,12,13 She was buried on 5 Jun 1983 in Chico Cemetery, Chico, CaliforniaG, in the Masonic section of Chico Cemetery next to her first husband, William Glabe.14,15
