Narrative:

     William Gann was born on 16 May 1835 in Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania.7,8,9
     His mother died before 1840, when William was under 5 years old. He was probably the male age 5 to 10 listed in the household of his father, John Gann Jr., in the 1840 Federal Census of Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania.14
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his father, John Gann Jr., and stepmother, Rachel Kauffman.1 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Oval, Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his father and stepmother.2
     William married Harriet Meixel, daughter of George Meixell and Nancy [surname unknown], on 19 Mar 1861.10,11,12
     William was named an heir in the will of his father dated 28 Apr 1869 in Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, to receive an equal share when his youngest sibling reached age 21, or at the death of the widow. It noted that he owed money his father, which if uncollected would be deducted from his share of the estate.4
     William and Harriet Meixel appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Collomsville, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 30 Jul 1870, reporting real estate of $7,500 and personal estate of $1,000. Their children Albert, Elmer and George were listed as living with them.15
     William and Harriet appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 16 Jun 1880. Their children Elmer and George were listed as living with them.16
     William stated in an affidavit filed in 30 Jan 1886 in support of the pension application of his brother Alfred, that he was living in Oriole, Lycoming Co, Pennsylvania and that he and Alfred were in partnership on the two farms which their father owned.17,18
     His wife died on 21 Feb 1900.19,20
     William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Limestone Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 12 Jun 1900, reporting that he owned his home, which was mortgaged.21
     He was a farmer, operating his own farm by 1870. By the early 1900's he owned and was cultivating 75 acres.22,23,24,25,26,27
     William served as a deacon and elder of the Lutheran Church.3
     William died on 17 May 1908 in Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, at age 73.6 He was buried in Limestone Cemetery, Nippenose Valley, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania.13
