     Nellie May Glabe was born on 27 Sep 1888 in Holton, Kansas.7,8
     She moved to Illinois with her parents about 1891.14 She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents, Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel.4
     Nellie married Charles Frederick Shafer, son of Adam Shafer and Anna Katharina Nieding, on 2 Jun 1909 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, with Rev. M. Gronewold officating.9,10
     Nellie and Charles appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 23 Apr 1910, apparently boarding in the home of Louis Walter and his wife Christina.15
     Nellie and Charles appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, on Oak St., enumerated 14 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their children Elma, Ronald, Faye and Arlene were listed as living with them. They were apparently living near her parents and their other children, as they are listed as the second previous household, on 6th St.16
     Nellie and Charles appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 15 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $6,500, and did not own a radio. Their children Elma, Ronald, Faye and Arlene were listed as living with them.15
     Nellie and Charles appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 25 Apr 1940, reporting that they owned a home valued at $2,500. Their children Faye and Arlene were listed as living with them. They reported they had lived in the same house in 1935.17 Her father and her brother Paul and his wife were apparently living nearby as they were listed as the preceding household.18
     Nellie joined Charles as a partner in his business, Shafer's Insurance Agency, about 1933. In 1940 they both reported their occupations as insurance salesman, and that each had worked 40 hours the last week of March and 52 weeks the prior years. She continued to operate the business after his death, until her retirement in 1971. She reported in the 1950 census she had worked 40 hours the prior week.17,19,20
     Her husband died on 10 May 1944 in Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois.21,22,23
     Nellie appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, at Walnut, enumerated 13 Apr 1950, reporting she lived in a home that was not on a farm. Her daughter Faye was listed as living with her.24
     Nellie served as town water commissioner for several years, a position held by her husband at his death.5
     Nellie moved to a nursing home in Fairbury about 1973.25
     Nellie died on 4 Dec 1979 in Fairbury, Livingston Co., Illinois, at age 91.11,12 She was buried in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois.13
