Narrative:

Charles Thomas Daugherty was born on 16 Dec 1907 in Racine, Wisconsin.8,9,10
He moved to Illinois with his parents between 1908 and 1910. He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Champaign, Champaign Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, Charles F. Daugherty and Wilhelmina Rogalski.4 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Champaign Twp., Champaign Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents.5
Charles married LaVerna Elizabeth Schuck, daughter of George W. Schuck and Katie Elizabeth Oetzel, on 5 Nov 1928 in Covington, Fountain Co., Indiana, with Asa Osborn, justice of the peace, officating.11,12,13
Charles and LaVerna appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Champaign Twp., Champaign Co., Illinois, enumerated 18 Apr 1930. Their daughter Joanne was listed as living with them. They are listed in the same dwelling as his parents. The enumerator initially recorded them as a single household, then changed the entry to reflect separate households in the same building. According to the instructions, this was to mean "they occupy separate portions of the dwelling house and their housekeeping is entirely separate."18
Charles and LaVerna appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Champaign, Champaign Co., Illinois, at 1610 W. Church St., enumerated 18 Apr 1940, reporting they were renting their home, for $35 per month, and had lived in the same city in 1935. Their daughter Joanne was listed as living with them.19
He was a linotypest when he married, and two years later was described as a printer, working in his father's print shop. In 1940, still working in a print shop, he reported he had worked 48 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,650.20,21,19
Charles registered for the draft for World War II on 16 Oct 1940, while living at 1610 W. Church St., Champaign, Champaign Co., Illinois, reporting he was a partner with his father in the Daugherty Printing Company in Champaign.3
Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army on 17 Sep 1942. He was discharged 4 Mar 1943.22,23,24
Charles and LaVerna were seperated by 1950, or perhaps even divorced as he reported in the 1950 census, while she reported she was still married.25,26 LaVerna was listed in the 1950 census as a lodger and housekeeper in a private home in Champaign, with their daughter Joanne also listed there.27 Charles appeared in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, as a resident of the Mark Twain Hotel, 111 W. Division St., enumerated 21 Apr 1950.28
He was a checker at a trucking company in Chicago, reporting in the 1950 census he had not worked the prior week and was not looking for work. He also reported working 52 weeks in 1949, earning $4,235 in wages or salary.29
Charles and LaVerna evidently reconciled, as the later were living together. They were living at 105 E. Healey, in Champaign, by 1958.30
He continued to work in Chicago, working as a linotype operator at Ace Type Setting Co. by 1958.30
Charles died on 16 Mar 1979 at age 71.14,15,16 He was buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana, Champaign Co., Illinois.17
