Narrative:

Clyde Carey Crecelius was born on 1 Mar 1888 in Ventura, California.8,9,10
As a child he was known as Carey Clyde Crecelius, but as an adult he consistently reversed is first and middle names and was known as Clyde Carey or Clyde C.1,20,2
He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Ojai Twp., Ventura Co., California, in the household of his parents, Isaac B. Crecelius and Anna E. Forbes.4 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Oxnard Twp., Ventura Co., California, in the household of his parents.5
Clyde moved to Reno, Nevada, by 1917. He registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at 423 W. 4th, Reno, Washoe Co., Nevada, reporting he was employed as a hotel clerk.2
Clyde was called for the draft in Apr 1918. No records of his militiary service have been found.21
He was a hotel clerk, and an assistant manager by 1940. In 1950 he was a hotel desk clerk.22,23,24,25
Clyde married first Leta E. Reigle, daughter of William David Riegel and Mary J. Quakenbush, on 15 Jan 1926 in Oakland, Alameda Co., California, with Edward J. Tyrrell, justice of the peace, officiating.11,12,13
Clyde and Leta appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of San Jose, Santa Clara Co., California, at 260 South 13rd, enumerated 14 Apr 1930, listed as roomers in the household of Andrew D. Johnson and his wife, with six other roomers, all single or divorced. Their son James was listed as living with them.26
Clyde and Leta appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Oakland, Alameda Co., California at the rear of 1735 16th Ave., enumerated 2 Apr 1940, reporting they rented their home, for $18 per month, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Their son James was listed as living with them, as was a lodger, Robert S. Williams, a service station manager.27
Clyde and Leta were Abernathy separated by 1942, when he was living at York, Pennsylvania, and reporting the "person who will always know your address" as Sister Rosana Superior at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.28
Clyde registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at 17 No. Beaver St., York, York Co., Pennsylvania, reporting he was employed by Nova Hotel, in York.28
Clyde and Leta were apparently divorced by 1950, as he appeared in the 1950 census with another woman listed as his wife. No record of a divorce, or of his remarriage, have been found. Her obituary lists him as her husband and his sister as her sister-in-law, and shows the sister's address as the "family home" even though Leta was listed as living elsewhere. But she is listed as widowed in the 1950 census, which is not uncommon for divorced people.14,15,16
Clyde married second Frances Lilly Martin, daughter of John Martin and Vera Fogle. She had previously been married to Alvin Lee Duvall.17
Clyde and Frances appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Covington, Kenton Co., Kentucky, at 849 Philadelphia, enumerated 7 Apr 1950, in the household of her aunt, Letia La Point, a 74-year-old widow.29
Clyde died on 15 Sep 1960 in Covington, Kenton Co., Kentucky, at age 72.18,7 He was buried on 17 Sep 1960 in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill, Kenton Co., Kentucky.19
