     Ernest Charles Pitchford was born on 15 May 1904 in Sterling, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania.9,10,11
     He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Woodward, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his parents, James Pitchford and Minnie Voight.4 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Woodward, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his parents.5
     He was a coal miner by the age of 15.21,22
     Ernest married first Ruth E. Baber, daughter of George Baber and Mary Powell, on 30 Aug 1926 in Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, with alderman Harry R .Robins officating.12,13,14
     Ernest and Ruth appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Plymouth, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, at 302 North Mill St., enumerated 2 Apr 1930, reporting they rented their home, for $20 per month, and owned a radio. Their son Ernest was listed as living with them, as was Andrew Koleasar, a 23-year-old coal mine worker, who was listed as a boarder.23
     Ruth filed for divorce from Ernest on 20 Oct 1933 in Luzerne Co., on grounds of cruel treatment. No record of the final resolution has been found, but the divorce was evidently granted as both subsequently remarried.15
     Ernest married second Gladys V. Souder, daughter of Joseph Souder and Sarah E. Reigle, before 1939. She had previously been married to Benton Culver.16,17,18
     Ernest and Gladys moved to Michigan before 1940. They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, at 13927 Kentfield, enumerated 2 Apr 1940, reporting they rented their home, for $28 per month, and that they had lived in rural Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania in 1935. His son by his previous marriage, Ernest, was listed as living with them.24
     He was a laborer, installing gas pipes, by 1940, reporting that year he had worked 34 weeks the prior year, earning $750.25
     Ernest registered for the draft for World War II on 16 Feb 1942, while living at 20236 Schoolcraft, Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, reporting he was employed by Huron Forge Machine Compay, in Detroit.3
     Ernest and Gladys appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Walled Lake, Oakland Co., Michigan, at 1367 E Lake Dr, enumerated 3 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.26
     He was a truck driver at a lumber company by 1950, reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 48 hours the prior week.27
     His wife died before 1971.28,29,30
     Ernest died on 2 Oct 1975 in Garden City, Wayne Co., Michigan, at age 71.19,20
