     Gladys V. Souder was born about 1903 in Dallas, Pennsylvania.7,8,9
     Her father died on 12 Jun 1907, when Gladys was about 4 years old.20,21,22 Gladys appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Fairmount Twp., Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of her mother and step-father, Moses F. Souder.23
     She was working in a silk mill before her marriage.2
     Gladys married first Benton Culver, son of Robert E. Culver and Sarah Thomas, on 15 Jun 1921 in Plymouth, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, with William E. Smith, justice of the peace officiating, with the consent of her mother as she was a minor. He had previously been married to Edith May Rule.10,11
     Gladys and Benton appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Shickshinny, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, at 8 Nicely St, enumerated 9 Apr 1930, reporting that they rented their home, for $5 per month, and did not own a radio. They were apparently renting from his adoptive father, who is listed as living in the same building and shown as owner. Also listed as living with them is Glen Killian, age 16, a nephew.24 Her sister Thelma and her family were listed as living across the street.25
     Gladys was granted a divorce from Benton in Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, 14 Apr 1934, on grounds of cruel treatment.12,13
     Gladys married second Ernest Charles Pitchford, son of James Pitchford and Minnie Voight, before 1939. He had previously been married to Ruth E. Baber.14,15,16
     Gladys and Ernest moved to Michigan before 1940. They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, at 13927 Kentfield, enumerated 2 Apr 1940, reporting they rented their home, for $28 per month, and that they had lived in rural Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania in 1935. His son by his previous marriage, Ernest, was listed as living with them.26
     Gladys and Ernest appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Walled Lake, Oakland Co., Michigan, at 1367 E Lake Dr, enumerated 3 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.27
     Gladys died before 1971.17,18,19
