Narrative:

Nathan Frank Mitchell was born on 22 Jul 1848 in Wickford, Rhode Island.5,6,7
No record of his parents has been found other than their names, which appear in the record of his third marriage. It seem likely that his mother, and perhaps his father, died before 1850.4
Nathan appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, enumerated 18 Jul 1850, in the household of Jonathan and Abby Sisson, who appear to have been his maternal grandparents.18
Nathan appeared on the 1865 State Census of Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island, at Hog Island, in the household of Robert and Dorcus Arnold.19
Nathan married first Betsey Ann Lake, daughter of Jonathan Lake and Mary [surname unknown], on 9 Oct 1869 in Bristol, Rhode Island, with Rev. Dr. Whedon officiating.8,9,10
Nathan and Betsey appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, in the household of Jonathan Lake and Mary [surname unknown], her parents, with their son John.20
They also appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island, enumerated 28 Jun 1870, in the household of Robert and Dorcus Arnold. Their son Benjamin was listed as living with them.21
Nathan and Betsey were divorced about 1872, apparently, as she had remarried and had a child with her new husband 5 Jan 1873.11,12
He was a laborer until at least 1880.22,23,24,25,26
Nathan appeared on the 1875 State Census of Jamestown, Newport Co., Rhode Island, in the household of Robert and Dorcus Arnold.27
Nathan married second Florence F. Remington, daughter of John Henry Remington and Betsey Mariah Stevens, on 27 May 1879 in Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, with Rev. J. H. Johnson officiating.13,14
Nathan and Florence appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, enumerated 5 Jun 1880.28
His second wife died on 30 May 1885 in Tewksbury, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.29
He was a teamster by 1896.30,31,32
Nathan married third Ida Christina Carston, daughter of Carl Carston and Sophie Nelson, on 17 Jun 1896 in Fall River, Massachusetts, with Rev. E. A. Buck officiating.4,15
Nathan and Ida appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, at 14 Monroe Ave., enumerated 1 Jun 1900, reporting they rented their home. Their daughter Ida was listed as living with them, as were two boarders, Mary Lay, a 74-year old widow, and Peter Carrolson, an ice teamer.33
Nathan and Ida appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, at 562 Thames St., enumerated 9 May 1910, reporting they rented their home. Their children Ida and Margaret were listed as living with them.34
Nathan died on 23 Dec 1918, at his home, 137 Burgess Ave., East Providence, Rhode Island, at age 70.16,17

Children:
     Children with Betsey Ann Lake

No record of Benjamin has been found after his birth was recorded in Bristol town records and he appeared with his parents in the 1870 census in the Robert Arnold household. It appears he died young.
John appears in the 1870 census with Nathan and Betsey in her parents' household, shown as born the previous December. He does not appear in town birth records, but there was a record of John Henry Freeman, born 2 Dec 1869 to Thomas Freeman, age 24 born in Canada, and Mary Doyle, age 21 born in Ireland. No further record has been found of them or their son. It seems possible that their son was adopted by Nathan and Betsey. This theory is supported by the fact that John was listed as Betsey's son in her obituary, and his death record shows Nathan and Betsey as his parents, even though town birth records to not record him as their son.43,21,20,44,45,46
