     Walter appeared with his parents on the 1870 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, in the household of his grandmother, Elizabeth M. Toot.12
     He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Lafayette, Kentucky in the household of his parents.5
     Walter died on 6 Oct 1888 at age 25.11 He was buried in the Tuck-Elliott Family Cemetery, Lafayette, Christian Co., Kentucky.11

     Vanderbilt University in Nashville established three training schools to prepare boys to enter the university. The one at Elkton, Kentucky, opened 16 Sep 1892. Walter's father was a major benefactor, resulting in two buildings being named for his deceased children, Walter and Josephine. Walter Elliott Hall, built between 1909 and 1916, had a gymnasium on the ground floor and dormitories on the upper floors. It continued in use into the 1980's.13,14,15,16
