Narrative:
James W. Brady was born on 24 Oct 1841 in Ohio.7,8,9He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, in the household of his parents, Barzilla Brady and Sophia Santee.13 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, in the household of his parents.14
James enlisted as a private in the 184th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on 8 Feb 1865, for a term of one year. The regiment was organized in Feb 1895 at Camp Chase, Ohio. He is one of several hundred who appear on muster rolls but not on any company rolls, so it is not known just how he served.15 Immediately after it was organized the regiment was ordered to Nashville, Tennessee, where it remained for a short time doing garrison duty. It then proceeded to Chattanooga, then on to Bridgeport, Alabama, which it reached about 21 Mar 1865. It then guarded the railroad between the two cities.16 On Jul 25 the regiment was ordered to Edgefield for garrison duty, and remained there unitl it was mustered out of service 20 Sep 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.16
James appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Samantha, Highland Co., Ohio, in the household of his brother Benjamin. Their mother was also listed in the household. His future wife was apparently living close by as her family is listed next in the census record.17
James married Eliza Anna Sollars, daughter of Samuel Sollars and Nancy A. Knox, about 1871.10,11,12
On 24 Jan 1878 the court ordered the administrator of the estate of his grandfather, Benjamin Brady, to pay James and his brother each $75, one half of their late father's share of the estate.18 On 25 Jul 1878 the court ordered him to pay him his remaining share, $16.11.19
James and Eliza appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, enumerated 9 Jun 1880. Their children Emmerson, Adaline and Laura were listed as living with them.20
James received a distribution of $57.13 from the estate of his mother's sister Elvira, as reported in the final settlement report for the estate, which was filed 13 Feb 1900.21
James and Eliza appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, enumerated 8 Jun 1900, reporting that they owned their farm, free of mortgage. Their children Emmerson and Adaline were listed as living with them, Their daughter Laura and her husband were apprently living in the same neighborhood, as they were listed as the fifth following household in the census record.22
James and Eliza appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, enumerated 9 May 1910, reporting that they owned their farm, free of mortgage. Their son Emmerson was listed as living with them.23
James and Eliza appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, enumerated 7 Feb 1920, reporting that they owned their farm, free of mortgage. Their son Emmerson was listed as living with them.24

James died on 13 Dec 1927 in Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, at age 86.5 He was buried on 2 Jan 1928 in Greenfield, Highland Co., Ohio.5
