Narrative:
Olive May Owen was born on 24 May 1873 in Minnesota.7,8,9 She appeared on the 1875 State Census of Pleasant Grove Twp., Olmstead Co., Minnesota, in the household of her parents, Samuel B. Owen and Emma A. Blake.19She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Lu Verne, Rock Co., Minnesota, in the household of her mother.20 She appeared on the 1885 State Census of Lu Verne, Rock Co., Minnesota, in the household of her mother.21
At some point between 1885 and 1900 Olive's mother took back her maiden name, Blake. It appears Olive did as well, as both her daughters gave that as her maiden name in later years.5,22,23
Olive and her mother both moved to Dixon Co., Nebraska, but just when, and whether they moved together or separately, is unknown.
Olive married first Louis Larsen about 1892.10
Olive and Louis appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Emerson, Dixon Co., Nebraska, enumerated 5 Jun 1900, reporting they were renting their home. Their daughter Beatrice was listed as living with them.24
No further record of Louis has been found. Whether he and Olive divorced or he died is unknown.
Olive married second Louis Ray Schinkel, son of Carl R. Schinkel and Lotta May Stoburg, about 1901.11
Olive and Louis appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Concord Twp., Dixon Co., Nebraska, enumerated 9 May 1910, reporting they were renting their home. Their children Ray and Doris, and Beatrice, her daughter by her previous marrige, were listed as living with them.25
Olive and Louis were divorced before 1920.12,13,14,15
Olive married third Samuel James Welburn, son of John Welburn and Lucretia Jane Agy, on 6 Feb 1920 in Dixon Co., Nebraska.16
Olive and Samuel appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Concord, Dixon Co., Nebraska, enumerated 8 Mar 1920. The listing is confused, apparently because they were married between 1 Jan, the official "as of" date for the census, and 8 Mar 1920, when the enumerator came to their home. She is listed in the household preceding his, with surname Shinkel and divorced, while he was shown as widowed, which apparently would have been correct on 1 Jan. His children Walter, Selma and Jessie were listed as living with him, as were her children by her prior marriage, Ray and Doris, who are listed as his step-children, which would not have been correct on 1 Jan but would have been when the enumerator arrived.26
Olive and Samuel apparently were divorced before 1930.17 After her marriage to Samuel dissolved, Olive took back her second married name, Schinkel.27
Olive moved to California by 1930. She appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of San Francisco, California, at the Laguna Honda Home for Aged and Infirm, enumerated 12 Apr 1930.28
Olive returned to Dixon Co., Nebraska, by 1933, when she advertised her sewing skills, offering to make sweaters into smaller garments. She remained there for several years before re-joining her daughter in California.29 Olive appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Mill Valley, Marin Co., California, in the household of her daughter Beatrice and her husband, Thomas M. Bradley.30
Olive died on 7 Oct 1941 in Marin Co., California, at age 68.18
