Narrative:

     Peter E. Dudley was born in Feb 1839 in New York, though as an adult he consistently claimed to have been born in 1843.5,6,7,8
     He was probably one of the two males under age 5 listed in the household of his father, Lemuel Dudley, in the 1840 Federal Census of Dix, Chemung Co., New York.15 He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dix, Chemung Co., New York, in the household of his parents, Lemuel Dudley and Margaret [surname unknown].16
     Peter appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Cogan House Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 8 Aug 1860, in the household of John Bacley and his family, with his younger brother George three other apparent boarders. Their parents were apparently living in the neighborhood, as they are listed four households before.17
     Peter was private in the Civil War.18
     Peter appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Loyalsock Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 30 Jun 1870, in the household of Edward Herrick and his family, with two other apparent boarders. Peter has no occupation listed, but others in the neighborhood, including his host, were sawmill workers so he may have been too.19
     Peter married Rachael Gann, daughter of John Gann Jr. and Rachel Kauffman, about 1873.9,10,11
     Peter and Rachael appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, at 307 Washington St., enumerated 8 Jun 1880. Their daughter Sarah was listed as living with them.20
     Peter and Rachael appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, at 933 Washington St., enumerated 7 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their children Sarah and Margaret were listed as living with them.21
     Peter and Rachael appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, at 933 Washington St., enumerated 11 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their children Sarah and Margaret were listed as living with them.2
     Peter and Rachael appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, at 933 Washington St., enumerated 2 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their daughter Margaret was listed as living with them.22
     He was a laborer in 1860, in an area known for lumbering, and a saw filer by 1880. He described himself as a capitalist by 1900, but by 1910 he was again a saw filer in a sawmill.23,20,21,2
     Peter died in 1921.12,13,14 He was buried in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania.12
