Joseph Hiram Keen was born on 16 Jun 1886 in Mouthcard, Kentucky.9,10,11 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Pike Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, General Marion Keen and Sarah Jones.4 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Schultz, Greenup Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.5Joseph married first Gertrude Hannah, daughter of William Hannah and Emily McCalister, about 1911.12
Joseph registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Argentan, Kentucky, reporting he was a self-employed farmer.1
His wife died on 24 Aug 1919 in Greenup Co., Kentucky.18
