Gertrude Anna Jones was born in Apr 1873 in Missouri.6,7,8,9She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Gasconade Twp., Wright Co., Missouri, in the household of her parents, Zachariah Jones and Susan B. Willis.4
Gertrude married first William F. Pool, about 1892.10,11
Gertrude and William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Pleasant Valley Twp., Wright Co., Missouri, enumerated 20 Jun 1900, reporting they rented their farm. Their children Lelah and Guy were listed as living with them.22
Gertrude and William appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Pleasant Valley Twp., Wright Co., Missouri, at Commerce St., enumerated 5 Apr 1910, reporting they rented their home, free of mortgage. Their children Lelah and Guy were listed as living with them.23
Gertrude and William were divorced, apparently by Oct 1911 as she remarried then, but no record of the divorce has been found.12,13
Gertrude married second Stephen Matney, son of Elias Matney and Susan Copley, on 23 Oct 1911 in Marshfield, Webster Co., Missouri, with J. A. Clifton, probate judge, officiating. He had previously been married to Belle Moore.14,15
Gertrude filed for divorce from Stephen 21 Jul 1916 in circuit court in Springfield, Greene Co., Missouri, alleging he had been a habitual user of intoxicants for the last year and had beat and cursed her and forced her to leave home. She also alleged non-support. A divorce decree was granted 15 Sep 1916 by default.16,17
When her divorce was granted, she requested protection until she left the city shortly afterward, as she feared an attack on her life. The request was granted.24
Gertrude married third William Joseph Morris, son of William A. Morris and Margaret Jennie Reigle, on 4 Sep 1917 in Joplin, Jasper Co., Missouri, with G. F. C. Corb, justice of the peace, officiating. They had obtained their marriage license in neighboring Newton Co.18,19
Gertrude and William moved to Colorado by 1920. They appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Limon, Lincoln Co., Colorado, at Greer Hotel, enumerated 8 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home.25
William filed for divorce from Gertrude 3 Sep 1929 in Washoe Co., Nevada, on grounds of extreme cruelty. The decree was granted 1 Dec 1929.20,21
