     Perry Augustus Derr Shurtz was born on 21 Aug 1857 in Lewis Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.7,8,9 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Lewis Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his parents, Frederick J. Shurtz and Margaret Ann Derr.13
     He moved to St. Joseph Co., Michigan, about 1864 with his parents.14
     His mother died on 18 Sep 1865, when Perry was 8 years old.15,16 Perry appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centerville, St. Joseph Co., Michigan, in the household of his father and stepmother, Sarah Elizabeth Riegel.17
     Perry appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Lockport Twp., St. Joseph Co., Michigan, enumerated 18 Jun 1880, in the household of John J. Major, a farmer, and his family, listed as a hired farm hand.18
     Perry married Adda A. Burdick on 8 Nov 1882 in Gun Plain Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan, with Rev. John Fletcher officiating.10,11
     Perry and Adda lived in Gun Plain Twp. for many years after their marriage. They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Gun Plain Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan, enumerated 2 Jul 1900, reporting that they were renting their home. Her mother, Edna Burdick, was listed as living with them.19
     Perry and Adda moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania, by 1904, living at 232 North Madison St.20 He was a traveling salesman, at the time of his death representing Fulton Bag & Cotton Mills in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.21,22,23
     Perry died on 30 Jul 1907 in 232 North Madison St., Allentown, Pennsylvania, at age 49, his home, after suffering from typhoid fever for three months.12
