     James P. Walker was born on 15 Mar 1854 in Columbus, Hickman Co., Kentucky.5,6,7
     He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Columbus, Hickman Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, James Pembroke Walker and Modena A. Cobb.2 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Columbus, Hickman Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.3
     He was a clerk in a telegraph office by age 15.13 He moved to Texas before 1878, where he became a dry goods merchant.14
     James married Nannie C. Briggs, daughter of Dr. William T. Briggs and Mary C. Rogers, on 16 Apr 1878 in Ellis Co., Texas, with Rev. W. G. Neal offciating.8
     James and Nannie appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Tarrant Co., Texas, enumerated 17 Jun 1880, in the household of George Vickers and his wife, apparently as boarders. Their son Mercer was listed as living with them, as were one other boarder and a servant.15
     His wife died on 20 Jan 1881.16
     James died on 15 Jul 1884 in Waxahachie, Texas, at age 30.9,10 He was buried on 16 Jul 1884 in Waxahachie City Cemetery, Waxahachie, Ellis Co., Texas.11,12
