Narrative:

     Dr. Joshua W. Cobb was born about 1829 in District of Columbia.5,6,7
     He moved to Ohio with his parents by 1830. He was probably one of the two males under age 5 listed in the household of his father, James Dyer Cobb, in the 1830 Federal Census of Lebanon, Warren Co., Ohio.13
     He moved to Indiana with his parents by about 1835, then back to Ohio by 1840. He was probably the male age 10 to 15 listed in the household of his father in the 1840 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.14
     He moved to Arkansas with his parents before 1847. He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Washington, Hempstead Co., Arkansas, in the household of his parents, James Dyer Cobb and Rachael Isaacs Jones.15,16
     He was a teacher in 1850, but had become a doctor by 1860. No information about his medical education have been found.17,18,19
     Joshua married Mary Celeste Phelon, daughter of Isaac Phelon, in Dec 1858 in Shelby Co., Tennessee.8,9,10
     Joshua and Mary appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Memphis, Shelby Co., Tennessee, enumerated 13 Jul 1860, reporting personal estate of $2,000. Their daughter E. S. was listed as living with them, as were her brother, Dick Phelan, age 10, and Thomas Brolton, age 21, a medical student, who may have been "reading" medicine under Dr. Cobb.2
     Joshua died on 11 Sep 1867 in Memphis, Shelby Co., Tennessee.11 He was buried on 12 Sep 1867.12
