     Lois Tuck Smith was born on 1 Mar 1890 in Kansas.9,10,11
     She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, in the household of her parents, Herschell Porter Smith and Corinne Acklin Tuck.7 She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, in the household of her parents.8 She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, in the household of her parents.18
     Lois married Luther Cleveland Ellis, son of W. G. Ellis and Annie Bell Bacon, on 18 Jun 1921 in Fourth Ave. Presbyterian Church, Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, with Rev. Dr. Charles W. Welch officiating.12,13
     Lois and Luther appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Glasgow, Barren Co., Kentucky, at 3 Leslie Ave., enumerated 7 Apr 1930, reporting that they owned a home valued at $10,000, and owned a radio. Patty Bolin, a 25-year old public school teacher, was listed as boarding with them.19
     Lois and Luther, took in James Louis White as a foster child, from the Kentucky Children's Home, Lyndon, Kentucky, 23 Mar 1931. They subsequently formally adopted him. He used their surname afterwards.20
     Lois and Luther appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Glasgow, Barren Co., Kentucky, at 115 Leslie Ave., enumerated 10 Apr 1940, reporting that they owned a home valued at $5,000. Their adopted son James was listed as living with them, as was Grace Truitt, a 27-year old public health nurse, who was listed as lodging with them.21
     Her husband died on 27 Oct 1955 in Glasgow, Barren Co., Kentucky.22,23
     Lois died on 17 Mar 1978 in Barren Co., Kentucky, at age 88.14,15,16 She was buried in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery, Glasgow, Kentucky.17

Their son was adopted. He was committed to the Kentucky Children's Home after his birth father, Oscar Erbin White, a farmer and alleged bootlegger, was shot by an officer trying to arrest him, and his birth mother, Gertrude Dossett, was left destitute and unable to support her children.25,26
