Narrative:

     Thomas Henry Caruthers was born on 7 Nov 1863 in "Oak Grove", Monroe Co., Mississippi, though some records show he was born in Memphis, apparently because he spent most of his childhood there.8,9,10
     He moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his parents after the War.17,18,19 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Shelby Co., Tennessee, in the household of his parents.20
     He moved to Chicago with his parents in Sep 1877.21,22,23 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents.7
     He was a clerk in 1880, and held the same position as late as 1885.24,25
     He moved to 4 Burton Place St. with his parents by 1885.26 He moved to 530 Lasalle St. with his mother after the death of his father in 1886.27
     He opened a boots and shoes business about 1887, at 1600 W. Madison St.. He continued to operate that business until 1890, relocating on that street several times, ending up at 1004 W. Madison.28
     He moved to 213 Schiller St. with his mother by 1891.29
     By 1891 he was working for J. J. Regan & Co., a shoe company.29
     Thomas married Katie [surname unknown] about 1894.11
     He was a saloon keeper by 1898, at 1722 Sherman Place. Apparently he left that business by 1900, when he was listed as a laborer.30,31
     Thomas and Katie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, at 913 N. Halstead St., enumerated 8 Jun 1900, reporting they were renting their home.32
     Thomas was named by the Chicago Board of Elections in Oct 1905 to be a judge for the 24th Ward, 27th precinct.33
     His occupation at his death was recorded as "agent."34
     Thomas died on 20 Mar 1906 in 195 Fremont St., Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, at age 42, at his home.12,13,14 He was buried on 22 Mar 1906 in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, in the lot owned by his uncle, Malcom M. McNeill.15,16
