William Charles Niephagen was born on 25 Jul 1874 in Illinois.7,8,9He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, Henry Niephagen and Mary Knortz.4
William married Aloria Antoinette Bliss, daughter of Marshall W. Bliss and Mary Ann Smail, on 25 Dec 1897 in Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois.10,11,12
William and Nettie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois, at 705 E. Buchanan, enumerated 5 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its home, which was mortgaged. Their daughter Marie was listed as living with them.2
William and Nettie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois, at 1106 East Clay St., enumerated 21 Apr 1910, reporting that the family rented its home. Their daughter Marie was listed as living with them.17
He was a carpenter.18,19,20,21 He registered for the draft for World War I in Sep 1918, while living in Barracks 209C, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Harford Co., Maryland, reporting he was employed as a carpenter for Maryland Dredging and Construction Co., but reporting his permanent address as 702 S. Main St., Bloomington, Illinois.3
William and Nettie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois, at 407 Jefferson St., enumerated 5 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage. Two lodgers, Maria M. Campbell, a nurse age 21, and Ethel C. Fuller, age 27, are listed as living with them. It appears that two other married couples are renting space in the same building from them.22
His wife died on 7 May 1926 in Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois.23,24
William appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, enumerated 28 Apr 1930, boarding at the Y.M.C.A..25
William appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, at 454 West Vine, enumerated 13 Apr 1940, as a lodger in the household of Frank C. and Clara B. Giger, reporting he had lived in the same city in 1935.26 He appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 Apr 1950, as a roomer in the home of Frank and Clara. No relationship has been found between them and William.27
William died on 30 Nov 1952 in Peoria, Illinois, at age 78.13,14 He was buried on 3 Dec 1952 in Springdale Cemetery, Peoria, Illinois.15,16
