Narrative:

     George Douglas Wieman Jr. was born on 21 Feb 1889 in Cincinnati, Ohio, though he was often recorded as having been born in Lexington, Kentucky.9,10,11,12,13
     He moved to Kentucky with his parents by 1892. He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, George D. Wieman and Annie Scully.5 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.6
     He was an operator at a railroad by 1910.20
     George moved to Michigan before 1917, and was employed by the automobile industry.21 He registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at 62 W. Philadelphia, Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, reporting he was employed as a stock foreman for Ford Motor Company in Detroit.3
     George volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in 1917. He was assigned to Battery "E" 119th Field Artillery, where he had achieved the rank of corporal by the time the regiment departed New York 26 Feb 1918 aboard the Olympic.22,23 The regiment saw five months of continuous service in France. It took part in several decisive battles of the war. It received regimental citations with General Pershing’s commendation for service in the Toul sector from 28 Jun to 2 Jul, the Alsne-Marne sector from 27 Jul to 24 Aug, the Oise-Aisne sector from 27 Aug to 9 Sep, and the Meuse-Argonne sector from 27 Sep to 7 Nov.24
     George was with the regiment when it departed Brest, France, 22 Apr 1919 aboard the U.S.S. Frederick, arriving at Hoboken, New Jersey 3 May 1919.25 Upon its return, the unit was paraded in Detroit and Lansing Michigan in recognition of its "splendid serice" before being demobilized at Camp Custer, Michigan. George spend a week with his parents in Lexington, Kentucky, before returning to his job with Ford Motor Company in Detroit.24
     George appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, at 62 Philadelphia Ave W, enumerated 12 Jan 1920, as a lodger in the home of Louis E. Frankel and his wife.26
     George married Louise Annie Quintin, daughter of Adolphus Quintin and Celia Annie Parent, on 19 Aug 1920 in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, with Rev. F. J. Van Antwerp officiating.14,15,16
     George joined Louise in Canada in 1921.27 They appeared on the 1931 Federal Census of 311 Janette, Windsor, Ontario, in the household of Adolphus Quintin and Celia Annie Parent, her parents, with their son Quintin.28
     He was an insurance agent in Canada, reporting in the 1931 census that he had earned $1,200 in the prior 12 months.29
     George was apparently spending considerable time in Detroit for work by the early 1940's, though he regarded his principal residence as in Windsor. He registered for the draft for World War II on 26 Apr 1942, reporting he was employed by Maccabees Fraternal Insurance Company, in Detroit. He stated his residence was 126 W. Philadelphia, Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, but gave as his mailing address 339 Janette, Windsor, Ontario, Canada.30,31
     George and Louise moved to Michigan by 1947, when they were living at 3511 Edgewood, in Pittsfield, and he was a district manager for Maccabees Live Insurance Company.32,33,34
     His wife died on 14 Feb 1947 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw Co., Michigan.35
     George died on 16 Jun 1948 in Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky, at age 59. He had been in Lexington several days visiting his sister Blanche.17,18 He was buried on 19 Jun 1948 in Heavenly Rest Catholic Cemetery, Windsor, Essex Co., Ontario.19
