James Clarence Neenan was born on 9 Aug 1890 in St. Joseph, Missouri.7,8,9His father died on 29 Aug 1896, when James was 6 years old.16
He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of St Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, in the household of his mother, Emma A. Bogle.5
His mother died on 9 Jan 1909, when James was 18 years old.17
James appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of St Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, at 519 North 24th St., enumerated 25 Apr 1910, in the home of Elmer E. Stout and his wife Susan and their two teenage children. James was listed as a cousin.18
James married Mildred Lorene Imel, daughter of John F. Imel and Dorothea Johanna Vasterling, on 7 Jun 1914 in Topeka, Kansas.10,11
James was a clerk at a bank in 1910, and later a commercial salesman for a cracker company.19,20 He registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living in Cameron, Missouri, reporting he was employed as a traveling salesman for Item Biscuit Co. of Omaha, Nebraska.21
James and Mildred appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 1236 Crown Hill Ave., enumerated 5 Jan 1920, reporting that the family was renting their home. Their children John, Dorothy and James were listed as living with them, Her father and mother, John and Dorothea, are shown as living in the same dwelling.20
James and Mildred appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska, at 4224 Woolworth Ave., enumerated 11 Apr 1930, reporting that the family rented its home for $70 per month, and owned a radio. Their children John, Dorothy, James, Jean and Janice were listed as living with them.22
James and Mildred appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri, at 21 E. 56th Ter., enumerated 10 Apr 1940, reporting that they rented their home, for $50 per month, and had lived in the same house in 1935. Their children Dorothy, Jean and Janice were listed as living with them, as was her mother, Dorothea Johanna Imel.23
He was a sales manager for a biscuit company by 1930. In 1940 he reported he had worked 44 hours the last week of March, and had worked 52 weeks the prior year, earning over $5,000.24,25
James registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at 21 East 56th Terr, Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri, reporting he was employed by National Biscuit Company of New York.26 He reported in the 1950 census he had worked 40 hours the prior week. He retired as a sales representive for the National Biscuit Company, of St. Joseph.27,28
James and Mildred appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri, at 4624 Pennsylvania, enumerated 6 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.29
James and Mildred moved to Columbia, Missouri, about 1963.30
James died on 1 Feb 1972 in Columbia, Boone Co., Missouri, at age 81.12,13 He was buried on 3 Feb 1972 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia, Boone Co., Missouri.14,15
