Narrative:

Minnie Diana Thomas Gracey was born on 27 Feb 1901 in Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee.7,8,9
She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of her parents, Julien Frank Gracey and Minnie Irene Thomas.4
Her mother died on 30 Sep 1919, when Minnie was 18 years old.24,25 She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of her father.26
Minnie married first Jones Forte Elliott, son of William Davis Elliott and Carrie Jones, on 17 Jan 1921 in Albany, Morgan Co., Alabama, with Rev. L. F. Goodwin officating.10,11
Her father died 6 Apr 1929 without a will, so under the law Minnie and her seven siblings were each entitled to an equal share of the estate. The estate was not divided, but each of the heirs received an undivided one-eight interest in the whole estate.27 The heirs decided the property should be held together for five years, and no one of them should have the power to sell or encumber any of the property, nor should the property be liable for any tort or other liability of any one of them. On 1 May 1929 they transferred the real estate to the executors of their father's estate, who was to hold it in trust and pay each of them their share of the rents after expenses.28 An inventory of the estate was prepared 5 Oct 1929, showing a total value of $245,904, including over $6,000 in cash, stock and bonds worth over $195,000, two warehouses valued at $37,000, and about $7,000 in other real estate.29
Minnie was living in Montana in Apr 1929, it would appear to establish residency for a divorce proceeding, though no actual divorce record has yet been found.30 Minnie and Jones were divorced before 1930.12,13
Minnie married second Stephen Roosevelt Winslow, son of Carmi Winslow and Sisel Charlotte Sletto, on 24 Mar 1930 in Everett, Snohomish Co., Washington, with Rev. Geo. T. Gunter officiating.14,15,16 Their marriage certificate shows him "of" Oakland, California, and her "of" Clarksville, Tennessee, though no record has been found of her living there for some time before. Why they were married in Snohomish Co., Washington, is unknown, other than it was a popular place for couples in the area to go for a quiet wedding. It is also unknown why they seemed to not acknowledge this marriage, and were married again with more public acknowledgement a few months later, unless her divorce from her first husband was not yet final.31
Minnie has not been found in the 1930 census, so her whereabouts are unknown, but Stephen was enumerated 22 Apr 1930 as living in a rooming house in Oakland, California, listed as single.32
Minnie and Stephen were married again on 21 Jun 1930 in Hayward, Alameda Co., California, with Rev. Charles Edward Lukens, Jr. officiating.17 Their second marriage was officially announced in Clarksville in a 23 Jun 1930 newspaper by her older brother Julien.33
Minnie and Stephen settled in Oakland, California, after their marriage.34
She was using her middle name, Diana, by the time of her second marriage, and seems to have used it exclusively after that.31,35,36
Diana and Stephen returned to his former home city, Minneapolis, Minnesota, by 1935.37 They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennipen Co., Minnesota, at 1500 LaSalle Ave., enumerated 12 Apr 1940, reporting they were renting their apartment in a large building, for $63 per month. They reported they had lived in the same city in 1935.38
Diana and Stephen moved to California about 1947, when they were living at 816 1st St. in San Diego.39,40
Diana and Stephen moved to Ensenada, Mexico, by 1967.41
Minnie died on 21 Dec 1971 in Ensenada, Mexico, at age 70.18,19,20 She was cremated and her remains were interred at the Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego, San Diego Co., California, on 23 Dec 1971.21,22,23
