Henry purchased a lot in Kuttawa on 8 Jan 1883, for $250 from Charles Anderson.24 He sold 95 acres on Skinframe Creek in Lyon Co. to his brother-in-law, David P. Glenn, on 16 Jul 1883 for $1,400, with $400 paid in cash and the balance by two notes. Half was due 1 Jan 1884 and the balance a year later.25 Henry purchased two more lots in Kuttawa on 17 Dec 1883, for $550 from H. C. Marshall, paying $100 in cash with the balance due in 60 days.26
Henry was a partner in the firm of Dorroh & Cobb for a time. In Sep 1892 he established his own store, selling books, stationery, school supplies, furniture, and undertaking goods. He took a course in the science of embalming, and "being the only scientific and practical undertaker in Lyon County, his skill is greatly appreciate by the people" according to a contemporary account. He was also a member of the grocery firm of Glenn & Cobb, a partner in the Eddyville Hardware Company, a director in the Citizens Bank of Kuttawa, and general manager of the Kuttawa Water-works.27,28
His investment in the Kuttawa Light and Water company proved to be disappointing. In May 1905 W. B. Smith purchased from Henry and two other parties their 150 share in the business for ten cents on the dollar, after the Citizens' Bank of Kuttawa foreclosed on a $10,000 mortgage.29
Henry sold his undivided interest in their father's home place to his brother Giles on 11 Nov 1884, receiving $100 in cash, a note for $150 due 1 Apr 1885, and a second for $350 due 1 Jan 1887. They were recorded as paid 28 May 1920.30 He purchased the remaining 2/3 interest in 100 acres on the waters of Crab Creek on 17 Feb 1885, from the heirs of John C. Graham for $500. His father had bought the other 1/3 years before, which Henry in turn had purchased, but the deed had not been recorded and had been lost, so the original seller also joined in the deed.31

In the fall of 1895 Henry complained to Marshal William McCullom that a boy had on several occasions thrown rocks at him. When the marshal went to arrest the boy his mother, Mrs. Berryman, objected and attempted to shoot him with a pistol. He succeeded in arresting her and took her to jail, where she died of heart trouble. Her daughter, Mrs. Lem Johns, repeatedly threatened to avenge her mother's death, once firing on Henry and the marshal as they were walking. On 25 Jun 1896 she had the marshal summoned to the cemetery, where she tried to shoot him. She failed, but he shot her dead.33
Henry and Addie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Kuttawa, Lyon Co., Kentucky, on Oak Ave., enumerated 2 Jun 1900. Reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage. Also listed in the household were Coppie Roberts, his widowed niece, age 20, and his cousin Samuel Glenn, age 22, a grocery merchant.34
His wife died on 25 Oct 1906 in Kuttawa, Lyon Co., Kentucky.35,36
