Narrative:
Rebecca E. Mims was born about 1829 in Christian Co., Kentucky.5,6,7Her mother died between 1828 and Jun 1830, when Rebecca was an infant.12,13,14,15 She was probably the female age 5 to 10 listed in the household of her father, Linah Mims, in the 1830 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky.16
Rebecca apparently moved to Caldwell Co., were her older brother, John, was living. He had moved there before 1830, and had prospered there. It seems likely that she and all her surviving siblings moved to brother John's household not long after 1830, perhaps after he married in the fall of 1831.16,17 She was probably the female age 10 to 15 listed in the household of her brother, John H. Mims, in the 1830 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky.18
Rebecca married first D. D. Mitchell on 15 Aug 1849 in Caldwell Co., Kentucky, with Rev. James W. Mansfield officiating.8
She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky, in the household of Robert Livingston Cobb and Cornelia Barbour Mims, her sister and her husband.19,20

His children by a prior marriage, Lynn, Martha and Lulie, and her son by her prior marriage, David Mitchell, were listed as living with them, as are three young men who were apparently boarders: A. I. Payor, a merchant; James B. Fletcher, a carpenter; and Joel Cochran, a clerk. There were 14 slaves reported in the household, plus one belonging to Payor.21,22
Rebecca and John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Mayfield, Graves Co., Kentucky, enumerated 7 Sep 1870, reporting real estate valued at $20,000 and personal estate of $12,000. Their children Lulie, Linah and John were listed as living with them.23
