     He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Newton, Hamilton Co., Ohio, in the household of his parents, Raymond E. Black and Mabel O. Landen.4
     His father died on 2 Jan 1933, when William was 10 years old.14
     Neither William nor his mother have been found in the 1940 census.
     William registered for the draft for World War II on 30 Jun 1942, while living at 112 Maplelawn Dr., Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, reporting he was employed by Wright Field in Dayton.2
     William was drafted into the U.S. Army, 3 Dec 1942, at Columbus, Ohio.15,16
     William married Mildred Louise Fenker, daughter of Alfred William Fenker and Jessie Blanch Billiter, in Nov 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio.3,9,10
     He was an insurance agent when he married.17 He was a billing clerk at a transportation company by 1950.18
