     Ernst Hillebrandt Fenker was born on 9 Oct 1887 in Covington, Kentucky.8,9,10
     He moved to Michigan with his parents by 1894.18 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Oxford Twp, Oakland Co., Michigan, in the household of his parents, Albert August Fenker and Mary Grant Hillebrandt.5
     He moved to Detroit with his parents by 1903.19,20
     He was a clerk for The Kennedy Optical Co. in Detroit by 1905.21
     He moved to Ohio, with his parents by 1906.22,23,24 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio, in the household of his parents, Albert August Fenker and Mary Grant Hillebrandt.4
     He worked as a clerk after the family moved to Columbus. By 1910 he was working as a commercial traveler, or traveling salesman, which was to become his career.25,26
     Ernst moved to Detroit by 1913, when he was living at 290 Warren Ave. W., Detroit. He was working as a salesman there.27,28
     Ernst married May Elise Schauroth, daughter of Clemens Schauroth and Clara M. Watson, on 14 Jun 1913 in Detroit, Michigan, with Rev. J. M. Barkey officating.11,12,13
     Ernst registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at 115 Gladtone, Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, reporting he was employed as a salesman for A. R. Rutledge, a building supply firm.29
     Ernst and May appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, at 73 Seebaldt Ave., enumerated 8 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home. William Hoppe, a 27-year-old auditor was listed as a roomer in their household.30
     He continued to work as a salesman in the building supply industry the rest of his career. He reported in 1940 he had worked 40 hours the last week of March, and 50 weeks the prior year, earning $3,000.31,32,33,34
     Ernst and May appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Orchard Lake, Oakland Co., Michigan, enumerated 23 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $35,000, and owned a radio. His cousin Grafton Thrasher Fenker and his wife, Edith L. Marshall, were listed as living with them, as was Agnes Swabona, a maid.35
     Ernst and May appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Orchard Lake, Oakland Co., Michigan, at 4901 Old Orchard Trail, enumerated 18 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $15,000, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. His cousin Grafton and his wife Edith were listed as living with them, as were Norman and Myrtle Lenox, a gardener and housekeeper.36
     Ernst registered for the draft for World War II on 26 Apr 1942, while living at 4800 Willow Lane, West Bloomfield Twp., Oakland Co., Michigan, reporting he was employed by Parker Bros. in Detroit.3
     Ernst and May moved to Florida about 1960.37
     Ernst died on 25 Jul 1969 in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida, at age 81.14,15,16 He was cremated and his remains were interred at the White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Troy, Oakland Co., Michigan.17
