Narrative:

     1516 Caroline Jane Gibbs was born about 1832 in Devon, England.6,7,8 Caroline and her sister Elizabeth were baptized on 2 May 1832 in St. Sidwell's Church, Exeter, Devon, England.17 It appears that Caroline and Elizabeth were twins.
     Caroline and Elizabeth appeared on the 1841 U.K. Census of Devon, at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, enumerated 1841, with seven other young girls, in a school operated by Elizabeth Lott.18
     She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, in the household of her father, John M. Gibbs.19
     Caroline married first William Hillebrandt on 15 Oct 1855 in Jefferson Co., Kentucky.9,10
     Caroline and William appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 6 Jun 1860, reporting no real estate but personal estate of $300. Their children Elizabeth and Ernest were listed as living with them, as were William Kemper, a collector, his wife Elizabeth and their son John, and Willard Elmer, a foundryman.20
     Caroline was named executrix and an heir in the will of William Hillebrandt, her husband, dated 25 Nov 1867 in Cincinnati, Ohio, in which he left her all his household goods, and his $18,000 in life insurance. She was to receive the income and rents on real estate invested from the proceeds from all the rest of his estate for her lifetime, after which the estate was to be divided between their children.21
     Her husband died on 16 Dec 1867 in Cincinnati, Ohio.22,23
     Caroline married second James Cruickshank, son of John Cruickshank and Janet Nucol, on 25 Feb 1869 in Covington, Kentucky.11,12
     Caroline and James appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Buena Vista, Kenton Co., Kentucky, enumerated 2 Aug 1870, reporting no real estate but personal estate of $2,000 for him, and real estate valued at $30,000 for her. Her children Elizabeth, Richard, Clara, Edward and Mary were listed as living with them, as were others, some staff at his hotel, but it is unclear how many were listed in their household.24
     Her second husband died on 23 Oct 1874 in Latonia Springs, Kentucky.25
     Caroline died on 19 Jul 1876 in College Hill, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.13,14 She was buried on 21 Jul 1876 in Cemetery of Spring Grove, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, in the lot owned by the heirs of her first husband.5
