     William Hillebrandt was born on 12 Jul 1831 in Hanover.4,5,6
     William married Caroline Jane Gibbs, daughter of John M. Gibbs and Elizabeth Isaac, on 15 Oct 1855 in Jefferson Co., Kentucky.7,8
     William and Caroline appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 6 Jun 1860, reporting no real estate but personal estate of $300. Their children Elizabeth and Ernest were listed as living with them, as were William Kemper, a collector, his wife Elizabeth and their son John, and Willard Elmer, a foundryman.1
     He was a clerk for B. Meyberg & Co., dealers in hats, caps, furs, and straw goods.11,12 He registered for the draft for the Civil War, appearing on the register dated in Jun 1863, while living in Hamilton Co., Ohio, reporting he was employed as a hatter.13
     William left a will dated 25 Nov 1867 stating he was of Cincinnati, Ohio, in which he directed first that all is debts and funeral expenses be paid. He left all his household good to his wife. He also left her the proceeds of his life insurance, three policies totaling $18,000, recommending that the proceeds be invested as he directed for his real estate. He directed that his real estate and remaining personal estate be reduced to cash as speedily as may be done, and invested in real estate. All the rents and income from the investments was to be paid to his wife provided she properly educate, maintain, and cloth his children, but no part of the capital to be paid to her during her life. At her death the proceeds were to be divided equally between the children. He appointed his wife and George Henchaw, Jr. as executors.14
     William died on 16 Dec 1867 in Cincinnati, Ohio, at age 36.9,10
     His will was probated on 26 Dec 1867 in Hamilton Co., Ohio.14
     William was buried on 3 Apr 1868 in Cemetery of Spring Grove, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, in the lot owned by his heirs, with his remains kept in the public vault from 18 Dec until then.3
