     John appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, with a household consisting of one male age 10 to 15 (unknown), and one age 20 to 30 (himself), one female under age 5 (daughter Anne), one age 5 to 10 (unknown), and one age 20 to 30 (wife Martha Giffen.)14
     John appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, with a household consisting of one male age 5 to 10 (son John), one age 20 to 30 (unknown), one age 30 to 40 (himself), and one age 40 to 50 (unknown), one female age 5 to 10 (daughter Mary), one age 10 to 15 (Anne), one age 15 to 20 (unknown), one age 20 to 30 (unknown), and one age 30 to 40 (wife Martha.)15
     John and Martha appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 12 Aug 1850, reporting real estate of $17,000. Their children Anne, John, Mary, Margaret and William were listed as living with them, as were John Baush, age 13, and Else Carr, age 16.2
     His wife died on 27 Jul 1855.16
     John appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated Jul 1860, reporting real estate of $29,100 and personal estate of $12,500. Their children Anne, Margaret and William were listed as living with them, as were William Ludwig, a 22-year-old farm hand, Kate Cramer, a 21-year-old domestic, and Christiana Riegel.1
     He was a farmer.2,1,17 He was for many years an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Warrior Run.4
     John left a will dated 24 Jul 1869, in which he appointed his daughters Anne and Margaret as executors. He left to them, in trust for his son John, one third of his farm. They were to pay to their brother the rents and profits from the property, and at his death the property was to pass to his children, if any, or if not to their children. The remaining two-thirds was given to the two daughters, as tenants in common. From his personal estate they were each to receive $7,000. If any was left after that it was to be divided equally between the three children, but the son's share was to be held in trust by the daughters on the same terms as his share of the land. All his furniture and household goods was left to the two daughters.18
     John died on 6 Aug 1869 in Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, at age 66.11,5 He was buried in Warrior Run Church Cemetery, Delaware Run, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.12
     His will was proved on 14 Sep 1869 in Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.19
