Florence Van Meter was born on 1 Aug 1893 in Highland Co., OhioG.4,5,6
     She moved to Oklahoma Territory with her parents before 1900. She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Otoe Reservation, Noble Co., Oklahoma Territory, G in the household of her parents, Charles W. Van Meter and Anna Burton.17
     Her father died on 27 Aug 1904, when Florence was 11 years old.18,19
     Florence returned to Ohio before 1910, but how that happened is unknown. No evidence has been found that her mother returned to that area. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Dodson Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, G in the household of William Isaac Brose and Elizabeth Hendrickson, listed as a servant. He was the older brother of the man she would marry later that year.20
     On 13 Jul 1910 in Highland Co., OhioG, probate court, Florence requested that Lee Terrell, brother-in-law of her employer and of her prospective husband be appointed her guardian. At age 17 she was able to select her guardian. The request was approved, and the court required no bond because the appointment was for the purpose of secure a marriage license.21
     Florence married first Truman Brose, son of William Joseph H. Brose and Edna Caroline Shaffer, on 16 Jul 1910 in Lynchburg, Highland Co., OhioG, with Rev. George Trosth officiating, with the consent of Lee Terrell, her guardian, as she was under age.7,8,9
     Florence and Truman appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 3435 Germantown St. G, enumerated 9 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home. Their children Lola and Harold were listed as living with them.22
     Truman filed a petition for divorce against Florence in Oct 1924 in Montgomery Co., Ohio divorce court. He charged that she "jabbed him in the leg with a butcher knife, threw an aluminum kettle at him, locked him out of the house at night, and wounded his affections by going out with another man." They were listed with separate addresses. Apparently they reconciled as she filed a new petition several years later.23
     Florence was granted a divorce against Truman on 9 Jun 1927 in Highland Co., OhioG.10,11
     Florence married second Elva Ervin Gebhart, son of Edward Gebhart and Marietta Nicholas, about 1928.12,13
     Florence and Elva appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 119 Xenia Ave. G, enumerated 11 Apr 1930, reporting they rented their home, for $30 per month, and owned a radio. Her daughter Lola by her prior marriage was listed as living with them.24
     Florence and Elva appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 315 St. Paul Ave. G, reporting they rented their home, for $22 per month, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935.25
     Florence died on 2 Apr 1940 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., OhioG, at age 46.14 She was buried on 5 Apr 1940 in Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery Co., OhioG.15,16

     She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Clear Creek Twp., Warren Co., Ohio, G in the household of her parents, William H. Franer and Minnie Amanda Hegel.18
     Her father died on 19 Mar 1908, when Frances was 7 years old.19,20,21
     Frances appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, G in the household of her mother.22
     Frances married first William Henry Smart, son of James E. Smart and Myrtle D. Houser, on 12 Jun 1917.7,8
     Frances and William appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 25 S. Kilmer St. G, enumerated 14 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home. Their son James was listed as living with them.23
     Frances filed for divorce from William on 7 Jul 1924 in Montgomery Co., OhioG. She charged that he became angry on one occasion because she went to Sunday school, and gave her a black eye. She also said he became angry when she bought shoes for their children, and packed his personal belongings in his automobile and deserted her. No record has been found, but the divorce was subsequently granted.9,10
     Frances married second Truman Brose, son of William Joseph H. Brose and Edna Caroline Shaffer, on 25 Jun 1927 in Newport, Campbell Co., KentuckyG, with Fred H. Wendt, justice of the peace, officiating. He had previously been married to Florence Van Meter.11,12
     Frances and Truman appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 518 Prity Ave. G, enumerated 14 Apr 1930, reporting they rented their home, for $30 per month, and owned a radio. His children Harold and Ralph by his prior marriage were listed as living with them.24
     She was a supervisor at a telephone company in 1940.25
     Frances and Truman appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 1431 Coventry Rd. G, enumerated 3 Apr 1940, reporting they rented their home, for $30 per month, and that they had lived in the same city in 1935. Their daughter and his sons Harold and Ralph was listed as living with them.26
     She was a seamstress at a mattress manufacturing company by 1940, reporting in 1940 she had worked 20 hours the last week of March, and 8 weeks the prior year, earning $50.27
     She was a machine operator at an auto part manufacturing company by 1950, reporting in the 1950 census she had worked 45 hours the prior week.28
     Frances and Truman appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Jefferson, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 183 W Carrollton - Soldiers Home Rd. G, enumerated 24 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm and they lived in the same house the year before. Their daughter and his son Harold was listed as living with them, as was her mother.29
