James Dunkson Crabtree was born on 21 Jan 1853 in Bradley, Lafayette Co., ArkansasG.4,5,6
     He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Saline Twp., Hempstead Co., ArkansasG, in the household of his parents, William H. Crabtree and Sophia W. Cobb.11,12
     He moved to Lafayette Co., ArkansasG, with his parents before 1870. He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Roane Twp., Lafayette Co., ArkansasG, in the household of his parents.13
     James and his younger brother George moved to LouisianaG by 1880. They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Bossier Parish, Louisiana G, enumerated 11 Jun 1880, both listed as boarders in the household of C. D. Sandige, a farmer, with another boarder and a cook. They were listed as farmers, but may have been hired hands on the farm.14 James returned to Arkansas before long.
     James married Lucy Elizabeth Freeman, daughter of Obediah H. Freeman and Eliza S. Dinkins, on 13 Apr 1882 in Lafayette Co., ArkansasG, with Charles N. Maryman, justice of the peace, offciating.7,8
     JamesNeither James nor Lucy, nor any of their children, have been found in the 1900 census. They had separated, or perhaps divorced by 1910, when she and three of their children appeared in the census on the farm in Lafayette Co., ArkansasG, with her listed as single.
     James returned to Louisiana, but when is unclear. He has not been found in the 1910 or 1920 censuses. He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, G in the household of his son George.15 He was listed as a laborer at a home farm, apparently his son's farm.16
     James appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, G in the household of his son George and his wife, Louvenia Flores.17
     James died on 6 Feb 1947 in Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, LouisianaG, at age 94.9,10
